How much tax will I pay on my online income?
The Visibility Gap
If you earn from multiple platforms, you likely have a "visibility gap." Money sits in PayPal, Wise, Upwork wallets, and pending payouts. Your bank account only shows what you withdrew, not what you earned.
This tool solves that by forcing you to look at Gross Income. By starting with the true top-line number, we can show you the "leakage"—the fees, FX loss, and expenses—that happen before the money hits your bank. You can't optimize what you can't see.
Gross vs. Net: The Profit Illusion
Platforms often show you your "Net Payout" (what hit your bank). However, financial health requires you to track your Gross Income (what the customer paid).
Example: You sell a course for $100. The platform takes $10. You receive $90.
The Amateur View: "I made $90."
The Pro View: "I made $100, and I paid $10 for distribution."
This distinction is critical. It allows you to audit your platform fees, claim them as deductions, and understand your true margins.
Income Normalization
Platform income is volatile. You might earn $8,000 in January and $2,000 in February. This makes budgeting impossible if you look at raw numbers.
Our engine uses Income Normalization to smooth out these peaks and troughs. We calculate your "Sustainable Monthly Baseline"—the amount you can safely spend or live on—while setting aside the surplus from good months for taxes and lean periods.

Why does this calculator exist?
Most platform earners track their bank deposits and call it "income." But that's not what you earned. Between platform fees, hidden transaction costs, and future tax bills, your "real" income is often 30-40% lower than your dashboard shows.
PlatformTaxHub is different. We don't just estimate tax; we reconstruct your financial reality. This calculator reveals the gap between your Gross Revenue (what you sold) and your Net Profit (what you keep), so you can price your work correctly.
How do I keep track of this all year, not once?
This calculator gives you a snapshot, but PlatformTaxHub offers a continuous movie. The same technology powers the Platform Income Operating System™ with income aggregation, expense tracking, real-time profit & tax calculations, filing readiness scores, and KPIs across all your platforms.
Learn how the Platform Income Operating System™ worksHow to Use These Results for Financial Clarity
- Understand Your True Margins: Use the "Net Profit" figure to see what you actually keep after platform fees and expenses. This is your real profitability.
- Identify Expense Leaks: Compare the "Estimated Expenses" against your actual spending. This helps you find hidden costs and opportunities to save.
- Plan Your Cash Flow: Use the "Estimated Tax" figure to set aside the right amount for taxes, so you aren't caught short. This is crucial for managing irregular income.
- Evaluate Your Business Structure: Use the "Structure Optimization" insight to see if your current setup (Sole Proprietor vs. LLC/Ltd) is the most profitable one for your income level.
Frequently Asked Questions
It depends on where you live, how much you earn, what your costs are and whether you trade as an individual or through a company — which is why a single percentage is never the answer. As a working reserve, the common guidance for self-employed earners is to hold back 25 to 30% of each payment as it arrives. This calculator goes further: where we hold your country's real progressive tax brackets it applies them to your profit after costs; elsewhere it gives a clearly-labelled generalised estimate based on your income tier.
Broadly, a company starts to pay off once profits are consistently high enough that the tax saving beats the extra admin and filing costs. In the UK that point is commonly put around £40,000 to £50,000 of profit, using a mix of salary and dividends. In the US, electing S-Corp status through an LLC is usually said to become worthwhile once net income is consistently above roughly $50,000 to $60,000. Below those levels the saving is often small and the added cost and responsibility can cancel it out. The calculator shows both structures side by side against your own figures, which is a better starting point than a rule of thumb.
Anything that only exists because of the work: platform and processor fees, software and subscriptions, the share of your internet and phone used for work, equipment, and for physical or delivery work the vehicle costs and mileage. The calculator separates digital work, which is usually low-overhead, from physical or operational work, which carries vehicles and equipment, because the realistic expense level is very different. What it cannot do is tell you what your particular tax authority allows — that is a question for your own rules or an accountant.
Three deductions stack and only the first is visible. The platform takes its cut before the money moves, so your deposit already understates what you sold. Then your business costs come out. Then tax is due on what is left. Platform dashboards show the first figure and nothing after it, which is why gross earnings and take-home pay can be very different numbers.
Yes. The tool is built for multi‑platform earners. You can enter income from different platforms, currencies, or work types, and the calculator adapts instantly.
No. The calculator works for both Sole Proprietors and Registered Businesses. It also shows when incorporation saves money — and when it doesn’t.
