From Fragmented to Financially Intelligent — why income from several platforms does not fit accounting software built for a single payslip, and the four frameworks that answer it.
Between 154 million and 435 million people now earn regularly on digital platforms, somewhere between 4.4% and 12.5% of the global workforce (World Bank, 2023). In June 2025 the International Labour Organization agreed to develop binding global standards for platform work for the first time in its history.
QuickBooks, Xero and the spreadsheets that fill their gaps were built for one employer, one currency and one pay date. Income arriving from several platforms at once breaks all three assumptions. What was earned. What the platform took before payout. What the earner is left with after fees, currency conversion and tax. And how any of it gets tracked when every platform reports differently and pays on its own schedule.
This paper sets out why that gap exists and introduces the Platform Income Operating System™: four frameworks that answer those questions in order, for people earning across 150+ platforms in six different parts of the platform economy. It draws on our own platform fee research alongside third-party data and the tax rules now changing in jurisdictions around the world.
